Reflective Dissertation: Leadership/Management Examination

I've enjoyed this week's readings and feel like I have experienced my eyes opened to a larger way of thinking. Like Joseph Rost (1993) said in our scanning this week I also have been doing " Complicated leadership and management and treating what as if these were synonymous” (p. 129). He went on to say that the offense of perplexing the two has a long and illustrious record in management studies (p. 129). This kind of observation of his surprises me because until this week I used to be unaware of a distinction between the two, but now that the difference has been mentioned to me by our blood pressure measurements and discussions this week, now I cannot help but notice the differences. The primary difference in my experience is that managers are given collection policies and procedures to adhere to and help to make their subordinates adhere to. Market leaders however use their judgment, experiences, and intuition to perform what has to be done for success, whether that means is a recently untried remedy or the revamping and improvement of an out-of-date an un-useful technique. I do not mean to mean that leaders entirely disregard plans and types of procedures, it is just that unlike managers, they are certainly not boxed in by these people. The study that we get done soon on the a comparison of leadership and management features definitely improved my principles of the two. Having had various management positions in the past inside the areas of restaurant supervision, manufacturing, and manufacturing plant production, My spouse and i believed those positions had been leadership positions.
